Connecting to God
If you are looking for the truth about God and where He fits into the world and into your life, this is a noble search.. For Jesus says he who seeks will find what he is looking for. At this point of your journey, you may or may not believe in God or you may not be sure if He really cares about you. Either way, there are answers and help for you as you search for the truth.
You probably want to start with Jesus and determining if you believe his death and claims are real. According to the Bible, Jesus Christ came to earth for one purpose, to repair the broken relationship between God and man, and to make relationship between them a possibility again. (1 Cor 15:3-5)
This leads us to a second thing to look at, God's view of us. The relationship between God and man was broken because man decided to ignore God and go his own way. All of mankind shares in this failure, according to the Bible.- "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." God sees us as having come up short in all that He intended for us. And he wants to restore that.
But first, we must understand and agree with God's view of us and our need for him. In doing this, we are turning from our own view of life and doing things our way and looking to Him for the correct view of ourselves and to meet the deepest needs of our hearts. (Acts 20:21) As we turn to Him, we acknowledge that we believe Jesus is who He says He is and that He truly died for us to show us God's love for us.
An intellectual agreement with these facts is not enough though. We must make the choice to receive Christ and the gift of his death which pays the debt we could never pay with our actions. (Eph 2:8-9) This gift is completely free and we can receive it as simply as telling God "I acknowledge that I have fallen short of what you intended for me. I accept Jesus' payment for my sin on the cross and I ask you to come into my life and be my God."
Some practical helps to help guide you in your search would be to read the Bible. We would suggest you start with the books of John, Acts and Romans. Also, you might want to pick up a copy of Josh McDowell's book More Than A Carpenter. In this book, he takes an extensive look at the person of Jesus Christ. Finally, talk to some Christians you know and ask them why do they believe what they believe.
