I have an 8 year old son and a 2 year old daughter and have served in the Kid’s Ministry for 5 years. I am currently part of a four-person team that teaches the 2nd through 5th grade boy’s class. Our goal is to teach the good news of Jesus Christ in a real and relevant way. The kids enjoy learning in an environment that encourages discussion and applies Biblical truth to everyday life. To make the lesson more fun and interesting, we play games and act out the Bible stories.
As a teacher, it has been a blessing to see how kids learn and are willing to embrace these life-saving truths. An interesting byproduct of my participation has been the deepening of my own faith. As I prepare for each lesson I have to understand the material from the standpoint of an elementary-age child. I have found that these kids intuitively know how to ask challenging questions that simple answers don’t always satisfy. Anticipating those questions, and reaffirming fundamental truths in the process, has challenged me to understand Biblical truths on a deeper level. Moreover, I have found participating in my own child’s faith to be extremely fulfilling.
