Caregivers

Who are Caregivers?

Caregivers take on the rewarding, yet challenging task of caring for someone in need. They are spouses, children, parents, family members, or friends who step up to help with tasks such as money management, personal care, transportation, housework, or medication reminders. Caregivers invest time, energy, and money into caring and are generally not compensated for their efforts. They often experience increased stress, financial strain, social isolation, and decreased well-being. Caregivers of older adults, persons with disabilities, or children in the foster care system are in need of support, encouragement, and hope as they walk out the often unclear caregiving journey.

Our Vision:

To provide hopeful care to caregivers across the lifespan through partnership, education, and practical support.

What is Cornerstone Cares?

In July of 2019, Cornerstone Baptist church was awarded a grant from the PATH foundation in Warrenton, VA to build a ministry to support caregivers in our community through education, practical support, and relationship. As the population of senior adults grows over the next few decades, more and more family members will be called upon to provide care for their loved ones. Caregiving can be a rewarding, yet challenging journey that is often unclear, unexpected, and at times very lonely. Our ministry seeks to come alongside caregivers to show them that they are not alone by offering:

  1. Caregiver Advocates: These Cornerstone members come alongside caregivers and their families to listen to their needs, connect them with resources, and support them along the journey of caregiving.
  2. Caregiver Workshops: Events hosted by Cornerstone Cares to equip caregivers with the knowledge and tools they need to navigate the caregiving journey with hope and empowerment.
  3. Respite Opportunities: Opportunities for Foster Care families to go one a date or take a break and options for caregivers to receive respite scholarships in order to attend our caregiver workshops.
  4. Helping Hands and a Listening Ears: Caregivers can take advantage of being a part of the Cornerstone family as our volunteers offer to make a meal, stop by for a visit, or help with small home repairs.
